The slopes at Argentiere were good, not as long as in some places but the reds and blacks were excellent. Would not recommend for beginners. Made use of the Mont Blanc unlimited lift pass to have a day in Courmayeur and a day in Verbier as well as visiting Le Tour, Les Houches and Brevant-Flegere. Brevant-Flegere was fine but given its south facing position got slushy very quickly so only did half a day. Les Houches was possibly the best area with long runs, especially a great red on the St Gervais side where you could see the length of the valley, as well as nicer places to eat and drink. To eat would definitely recommend Le Carnotzet for Fondue and Raclette. ...

What can you say about Argentiere? Grand Montets is just fantastic. So much skiable terrain and on a powder day incredible. Night life is mainly pubs but a quiet night can quickly degenerate into an all night feeding frenzy and with Chamonix only 10 minutes away... So what are you waiting for - If its big mountain skiing you're looking for then get on board! ...

Argentiere is a very pretty village with good restaurants & bars. The ski area of La Tour is limited but with nice long reds & blues. The Grands Montets offers some great off-piste skiing. Flegere nearer Chamonix had more testing slopes. Les Grand Motets good but busy. Chamonix itself seems to be unsure whether it wants to be Megeve, or Soll. Entire valley seems to be geared to climbers and ski lift systems are RUBBISH - slow, old and inadequate. Queue city. Ski in/ski out resort next time! ...

Skiresort profile

One of the several smaller resorts that make up the Chamonix ski area, Argentiere is where most advanced skiers head to when they arrive. It's where the big guns go when they talk of the Chamonix domain; an extra few Euros to go up the top stretch of the cable car is considered a small price to pay. The Grands Montets offers some of the best and most difficult off-piste and black-piste skiing anywhere
